I’m starting this blog post from inside a cafe in one of my favourite districts of Rotterdam.
Everyday we fall in love a little bit more with this city. Where a year ago we went to anything that resembled fun within the vicinity of where we lived, we now have to skip events because there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all.
So yesterday I started this post why I was exploring the area known as the Laurenskwartier. The Meent, Pannekoekstraat and the Botorsloot have trendy shops, boutiques, salons, restaurants an a lot of coffee cafes. It’s located nearby the Markthal and the Laurenskerk (Church). It’s the just off the ‘just off high street’ of Rotterdam. That said the Hoogstraat which translates to High Street is part of this district, however this section is not the main part of the shopping street!
If you’re visiting The Netherlands keep in mind there are Coffee Shops and Coffee Cafes and there is a huge difference! In a Coffee Shop you can purchase e.g. Hash and Marijuana. So if you’re looking for a cuppa you need to go to a cafe and not the Coffee Shop!
Parking on the street and in nearby parking garages
To reach from the Rotterdam Centraal Station:
Walking: 18 minutes
Biking: 6-8 minutes
Public Transport: Sprinter Train to Rotterdam Blaak
To find out where the Botersloot got its name visit the site In de Buurt Rotterdam. (Dutch, you’ll need to translate page)
I’m not really promoting this blog yet, as I’m still developing the concept. I just feel the need to document my Rotterdam adventures. We’re still unpacking and finding our way here. It’s a wonderful place to be! You’ll be hearing more from me as I document more. Until then it’s my quiet little spot on the world wide web!
Thanks for stopping by!
